AUGUST IN SWEDEN AND MALLORCA with Margeaux, Soline + Martin — by Margeaux
Summer in Mallorca is hot, hot, hot, and Stockholm is always the perfect escape.
The first summer I was introduced to Sweden, I fell in love — the calm of the countryside, the open fields and farm animals, the long days and cool nights, flowers blooming everywhere. As a New Yorker, the stillness was almost shocking.
This year was the first time Soline could run through the fields with me, wander through the forest — hands full of all her little discoveries. She smells every flower we pass, making sure we both smell them too. Her curiosity and joy are contagious. Since she was born, trees have been her pacifier - when she cried, we’d carry her to touch the leaves, and she would stop almost immediately. Some days I really long for New York, but there is such beauty raising a child here in Mallorca, being so connected to nature.
Since I was young, I dreamed of becoming a mother, having a big family. But in my mid-30s (when shit gets real!), I started questioning if that was still what I wanted, if I was ready to give up my independence. As a business owner, time off was rare. I am the founder Dreamland, a casting and talent management agency. I truly love what I do — one of my favorite parts being the incredible, inspiring people and brands, like Misha & Puff, that I’ve been lucky to collaborate with. But I couldn’t imagine balancing the constant demand of work, frequent travel and my love of freedom — with a child.
During a powerful medicine retreat, I felt called to ask: Do I want to be a child — free of responsibility — or do I want to have a child? The answer was clear and undeniable: You can be a child with your child! Run barefoot through the fields with them, eat ice cream for the first time with them — in this case, her first kanelbulle (Swedish cinnamon bun), experience childhood through them. That sentiment was exactly the shift I needed.
Now 18 months in, Soline loves all things music and animals — this week it’s “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” on repeat. Our house is covered in butterfly and cupcake stickers, and she insists we read her as many books as we can. She’s ripping off her diapers, stealing mama’s purses, waving to everyone in the street, giving goodbye kisses, and wrapping us in the most heartwarming hugs. She’s silly, loving and brings endless laughter into our days.
A good night’s sleep feels like a thing of the past, but we’re holding tight to every co-sleep and nap-time cuddle, knowing these days will pass too quickly. Motherhood has been the greatest blessing of my life. Soline is beyond my wildest dreams — a rocket-ship-to-the-moon kind of love.
