New Norm – Expansion and Life on the Mountain

By Synmia Rosine

we find ourselves bouncing from home to farm to farmers market. jamming ourselves into our pickup truck. playing eye spy and podcasts about folklore or farming or plants.

back and forth and up and down the mt 4 times per week. for track and market runs and gatherings and family dinners. little voices all around.

It’s week 10. this is my new normal.

meals and homeschooling in the car. talking over Kiyoko’s playlist. emails and deadlines and appointments and milk bags all made from the passenger seat.
a diverse platter of self reflection, expansion, deeply shedding self pity or the smothering hands of doubt. my mantra is about slowing down. truly understanding the art of energy versus lethargy. and harnessing the lightness of joy because life is about unfettered discovery.

I’m 7 months postpartum and we just started on this journey of family grocer. I’m learning more than ever about balance and self awareness.

I’m practicing knowing how to keep the peace amongst the chaos. my plant sits and attentiveness, when I hand water and check in on every fruit tree, every herb, every weed - these acts show me how to come back to center.

life’s pace right now is focused on nurturing my rest and my rituals. (and being hyper organized for my family) I listen to my true Source (self) and keep feeding this being of feeling whole.

What makes me feel whole?
the sun
L O V E
plants
the seed
nature.
sweet strawberries
yellow peaches
Chinese broccoli
napa cabbage
hydration
W A T E R
books
breath
my kids
my hubby
our farm
our alpacas
morning cuddles & real rest
breastfeeding
family dinner nights with LA family
watching Kiyoko run her heart out
when Keem says “he loves me 6753” and his magic potions
seeing Ossie climb giant boulders or catch summer flies
laughing so hard with hubby we’re crying randomly during our late night delirious chats about what the hell and how the hell we are going to everything on our To Do List.

in my heart of hearts I know 2 things to be true: nothing is what it was the day before; and motherhood right now is the most magical metamorphosis I could’ve ever dreamed of.
